Pontotoc County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. Pontotoc is a Chickasaw word meaning "land of hanging grapes". The original Natchez Trace and the current-day Natchez Trace Parkway both pass through the southeast corner of Pontotoc County. Pontotoc County is part of the Tupelo, MS Micropolitan Statistical Area. ==Geography== According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of , of which is land and (0.7%) is water.
